These Small Native American Backpacker Drone Flutes are way cool and super priced. Made of Poplar they produce such a pleasing beautiful tone and are small enough to take backpacking and hiking or anywhere you go!
All of our poplar drones are finished with a non toxic all natural stain and non toxic oil and wax finish. We do not use synthetic or toxic finishes on any of our products. The finish will vary slightly as each flute is hand made and possesses individual characteristics.
They all include 1 additional tone hole on the back side of the drone chamber (right where your thumb sits) to provide an additional note on the drone chamber! This would be the base note of the scale (ie. on an A flute, it would be A) and the major tonic - the second note of the minor pentatonic scale (ie. on an A flute, it would be C - the major tonic is in harmony with all other notes on the flute side just as the base note is. Small Native American "Backpacker" Drone Flutes
There were a few historical examples of Native American Drone Flutes that have been discovered. The most well know were perhaps in the Calima Cultrure of Central America who made the 4 hole drones with 4 fingerings on each side! These flutes are usually between 12 and 15 inches (30-38cm) long. Size is determined by the key of the flute ordered - smaller flutes are higher in tone and larger are lower. In an effort to keep everything natural, we offer a sunflower oil and beeswax finish on our flutes (more about our finish on our "INFO" page).
